| | The inspiration for the class arises from my long-term interest in exploring the intersection between the neuronal mechanisms that control behavior in non-human animals and cognitive functions. Because of my 40-year career in studying neuronal circuits, I bring a deep knowledge of neurophysiology and neuronal circuits to bear on modern discoveries about the neuronal processes that underlie mental function, such as facial recognition and the experience of empathy. My aim is to engage students in learning and thinking about the relationships between neuroethology, the study of the neuronal basis of animal behavior, and cognition, the study of mental function in humans. |
